What it means

A technical assessment is a structured evaluation of job-relevant technical skills, problem solving, domain knowledge, or work-sample ability. It can include coding tasks, simulations, take-home projects, live exercises, multiple-choice tests, infrastructure scenarios, data tasks, or role-specific technical interviews.

Why buyers should care

Technical assessments can help hiring teams evaluate skills consistently, but they can also create candidate burden, accessibility issues, security concerns, or weak signals if the task does not reflect real work. Buyers should understand how scores are produced, what they measure, and how reviewers should use the results with other evidence.

Evaluation checks

Review assessment libraries, role relevance, custom task support, time limits, accommodations, plagiarism controls, scoring rubrics, reviewer workflow, candidate communication, and ATS integration. If AI scoring or proctoring is used, inspect explainability, bias monitoring, appeal or review options, privacy controls, and how human reviewers can correct or override outputs before decisions are made.
