What it means
An AI integration handoff is the point where an AI-enabled feature passes data, recommendations, summaries, classifications, or workflow actions into another system or team. In HR software, this can involve handoffs between sourcing tools, ATS platforms, HRIS records, ticketing systems, payroll-adjacent workflows, analytics dashboards, or employee communication channels.
Why buyers should care
A handoff is where many AI risks become operational. A generated summary may be harmless in a draft view but risky if it becomes a candidate record, manager note, payroll context, or compliance artifact without review. Buyers should understand exactly what crosses system boundaries, which fields are updated, and whether human approval is required before the handoff occurs.
Evaluation checks
Review integration maps, field mappings, permissions, approval requirements, sync logs, rollback options, and error handling. Ask vendors whether AI-generated content is labeled after transfer, whether reviewers can edit or block it, and whether downstream systems preserve source context. Strong handoffs should make it clear what was AI-generated, who accepted it, and where it went next.
